Hometray helps families keep track of school dates, letters and deadlines. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and your rights. Contact us at hello@hometray.co.uk with any questions.
What we collect
- Your account: your name and email address from Google, Microsoft or an email sign-in link. We never see your password and never get access to your inbox.
- Your family: the family name, the adults you invite, and each child's first name, school, year group and (optionally) class.
- What you send us: emails you forward to your Hometray address, and photos, PDFs or text you upload, plus the dates and actions we find in them.
- Public school information: school details from the Department for Education's register, term dates from local councils, and events from schools' public calendars. This isn't personal data.
How we use it
- To show your family's calendar, deadlines and days off, and to share them with the adults in your family.
- To read forwarded emails and uploads and turn them into dated actions.
- To keep the service secure and working.
We don't sell your data, show adverts, or use it for anything else. We only process what you choose to send us.
Children's information
Accounts are for adults. Information about children comes from their parents or carers and from what schools send them. We keep it to what's needed: a first name, school and year group, and the school messages you forward.
Who helps us
- Supabase stores our database and handles sign-in, in London.
- Vercel runs the app, in London.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads forwarded emails and uploads to find dates and actions. It doesn't use them to train its models. This may be processed outside the UK.
- Cloudflare manages our domain and receives forwarded emails.
- Google and Microsoft, if you choose to sign in with them.
Where data leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
We keep your family's information while your account is open. You can delete any forwarded item or upload at any time from the Inbox page. If you close your account, we delete your family's data.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email hello@hometray.co.uk. If you're unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
